The final round of judging will take place on June 14 at the Square Room on Market Square from 5-7 p.m. The three finalists will pitch their ideas to a final set of judges and a live audience. The winner will also be announced at the event.

The winning entrepreneur will be eligible for more than $ 35,000 in capital and business services including:

Price trumps sales and special deals, customer service, and convenience as a factor in deciding where to shop for the majority of U.S. consumers, according to The NPD Group, a leading market research company. NPD’s The Economy Tracker*, a monthly monitor of consumer sentiment about the economy and spending, finds that in the most recent survey (March 12) 85 percent of U.S. consumers say that price will be an extremely important/important factor in deciding where to shop in the near future, ten percent more than those who feel sales and special deals are extremely important/important.

By income, 87 percent of those in the household income bracket of $ 25 to 50,000 selecting price as extremely important/important, 85 percent in the $ 50,000 to $ 100,000 income bracket, and 82 percent in the $ 100,000 plus bracket, according the The Economy Tracker. Seventy-nine percent of young adults, ages 18 to 34, 86 percent of 35 to 44 year-olds, 88 percent of 45 to 54 year-olds, 89 percent of 55 to 64 year-olds and 86 percent of ages 65 and older said that price was extremely important/important.    

“Shoppers are now savvier when spending money. They have new ways of gauging the marketplace – they can compare prices on the Web while at home or while standing in a brick-and-mortar store with their smartphones,” says John Deputato, senior vice president, advanced analytics at NPD. “We certainly have moved to a time of calculated consumption for shoppers… and price has come to the forefront of the purchase decision.”

Deputato points out that the sophistication of consumers when it comes to price, changes to shopping habits, and the soft U.S. economy has made the decision to set retail prices not only more difficult but more strategically critical for both retailers and manufacturers.

“Manufacturers and retailers recognize that setting the right pricing strategy is a competitive advantage in the marketplace, but pricing is more difficult today than it was prior to the recession,” says Deputato. “We’ve been working with the top retailers and manufacturers conducting price elasticity research to understand the wide range of potential impact on profits depending on the possible pricing decisions. Prices can’t arbitrarily be set, it takes information and a thorough thought process to come up with the right price.”

In the wake of the recent passage of landmark national health care legislation, Bizfindster, LLC, publisher and producer of health-focused publications and events aims to actively promote and celebrate a lifetime of health and wellness. On Saturday, May 22nd, 2010, from 10 am to 6pm, Bizfindster, LLC in association with numerous national health organizations will host, the Total Body Health Fair: Mind, Body & Soul at the Comcast Center, University of Maryland College Park (UMD). The event is FREE and ALL are welcome to attend.

Men, women, children, teenagers and seniors can expect to spend the day, watching live, healthy cooking demonstrations, listening to experts, lining up to “Ask the Expert”, engaging in interactive workshops and enjoying local, health-focused products and services. To promote fitness as fun, attendees can register to win a Wii Fit Plus, a video game system by Nintendo. Wii Fit Plus will be offered as an activity to people of all ages at the fair, the child or adult who purchases a raffle and lines up to plays the game can win the fitness gaming system. Event organizers aim to provide a fun environment that promotes and celebrates wellness, healthy living and the importance of quality medical care.

Participating national health organizations include Leukemia and Lymphomia Association, Uniformed Services University Center for Health Disparities, Center for Disease Control and many more. PG County Health Department, PKD Foundation, Allergy and Asthma Foundation, American Diabetes Association, Lupus Foundation of America and other local and national government agencies will provide excellent health and nutrition information. Along with traditional medicine and pharmaceuticals, visitors will receive resources, services and referrals that supports the inclusion of diet, nutrition, exercise and mental wellness into a person’s overall health regimen from local businesses.

When asked why he decided to host such a large health fair, Gbenga Famubode, President of Bizfindster, LLC, parent company of Total Body Heath Fairs, he stated, “We live mere miles away from the Capitol and the White House, yet so many people in PG, Howard and Montgomery Counties do not have the benefit of access to quality medical care, services to enrich and improve quality of life, information about local fitness resources or even how to cook healthy food at home. In the wake of a landmark national health care bill, charity should begin at home. Our doors are open to ALL, we also invite local health, fitness and wellness businesses to promote healthy living to those who need it most.”

The value of a health fair during these times cannot be underestimated. As stated on the Covertheuninsured.org website, a project of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF) “Forty-six million Americans are uninsured: More than 9 million of them are children; more than eight out of 10 are in working families. They are our friends, neighbors and colleagues–forced to gamble every day that they won’t get sick or injured.” During the fair, with the help of local and national health insurance companies, uninsured health fair participants can enroll in qualifying medical insurance programs. For those who do not qualify, the event is an opportunity to relax and have a family fun day, while receiving critical physicial, spiritual and mental resources that will help rejuvenate the total body: mind, body & soul.”
